The red strings of fate

Digital Color Series 2022

Strings are used in mythologies all over the world to represent connection. In Japanese folklore, every person has a red string tied to their pinky finger, while the other end is tied to their soulmate. In Greek mythology, the “fates” were three female figures who controlled every persons fate through a string, and every string was woven together into the world’s tapestry.

I am constantly exploring connections in my work. The individual is always the center of the story, as it’s their story to tell, but regardless of it being their story, there are always outside factors impacting our stories that we tell. I wanted to use strings to represent these connections, these outside factors impacting our lives.
